Fault Lines

The geography of her led
to dark terrain,
an earthen depression
amidst the peaks of
surrounding onlookers.
In her mapping
her light was never luminous
though inhabitants far beyond
saw it, captured it, and
tried to bounce it back.
She never retrieved her
glow after placing it on
the hills and plateaus
she considered beyond her latitude
that she surveyed and logged inside.
To raise their earthen forms
she suppressed her own
never knowing it was her
hill that towered over theirs
far beyond the horizon of perception.
