“La Rochelle 1896”

Eugene Atget La Rochelle

Crooked, lifeless sails

Top slanted boats

In a maze of wet,

Shale-like surfaces.

A splotched sky

Filters through the

Mist of dark wood

That beckons sailors

To untwist and unbend

Lifeless structures,

Opulent in their simplicity.
