The Joy of Being

A sense of worth, a sense of loss

a sense of transience encumber

us as we navigate the lightness

of ourselves and the darkness within

this chamber of life.

Pewter figurines topple to send

a message of love and longing

from the atoms dispersing through

the skies.

The connection as brief as it was

when my mother passed

the song on the radio, love’s theme ,

so reminiscent so painful

but the figurines ajar were playful

a hug from beyond, a final parting smile

that lifted me beyond our joy of being

friends.
